the devil vs. me

by Jersey D Gibson

Can't get caught up in it again,
feels like I've been losing for a long long time;
and my patience is wearing thin.
Broken down to simple things,
can't take it all, what's left of me.
Am I really dying, inside?

Ignorance is no excuse
but a plausible defense, instead.
Here, I'm left with no patience
feels like my demise is immenant...
or is it the devil inside me?

Left behind like a piece of trash,
can you leave me in a gutter;
something tells me this is real.
Bleeding from all the papercuts,
too many for too few bandaids.
Am I really giving up, inside?

Guilty verdict before the trial
suffer now lest ye hath won.
A plague, a pox, a simple curse,
tell me now what was this all worth...
is it just the devil inside me?

Can't you see, I'm bleeding here?
Can't you tell I'm hurting?
Won't you stop and give a hand?

Look at me, I'm falling...
Look at me, I've fallen down...
Won't you stop and help me stand?

Broken messages and bottles here,
scraps of paper torn in two;
what was left has now died.
Left with nothing but imprints,
fingertips that are left behind...
is that all that's left, inside?

Damn, damned I am, I am no good
freak show, just a peek show now.
Cast out, cast down, in the dirt,
brought back to make it worse...
this is really the devil inside me!

Can't you see, I'm dying here!
Won't you please, save me here!
Are you really going to go?

Look at me, I'm falling...
Look at me, I've fallen down...
will you bury me in a hole?

This is the devil vs. me,
this is the devil inside me,
can't give up unless I try.

I've lost, and I'm losing,
just gone down swinging...
the devil has won... inside.

Strongly stated, sung,in fact, or ranted, chanted. Excellent use of fonts for emphasis and changes of tone, intense and observant, powerful, a push toward understanding, and transformation. I logged in because I saw you here, to send a smile your way!
