there is a path, perhaps unattainable
nevertheless, it's the road I've chosen to travel
sometimes lonely, sometimes cluttered with mindless debris
memories and scandalous choices stand in the way
of the light I am certain exists,
if I can only prevail
and persevere ...

careful not to abuse this thing called love and devotion
don't leave me hanging on the edge of an after thought
wondering what happened as I gaze at nothing
except the glimpse of my shadow, languishing
full of despair
glaring at oblivion
watching screams on wild horses race by ...

don't tell me you understand, then leave me empty
with some pseudo rationalization of need
if you have me, why toss me aside?
if this meant nothing more than grand intentions
stop wasting my time,
as I've seen plenty of those and let me tell you, they're worthless
large sounding tones in a hat box
straining with roaches and dice

if you're serious, then show me
anything, other than high flying excuses
rattling off nonsense for good measure,
fling in a few choice insinuations
serves no purpose other than to destroy
this thing you call love and devotion ...
