PLANT SOMETHING THIS WEEK*

by Ann Krischus

must it be a seed,
knowing the essence
of Hope is the Almighty One?
must it dribble roots
into the earth
when the Seed is the earth?
what about a ray of Light
which is not really seed or root,
but rather a thread of the Sun?
what about the Word which is
All no matter how
many times we dice the Word?

must it grow a religion
or is faith in Love enough?
(i know i know the answer already).
Love is bud and blossom,
the becoming, the withering,
the return to the womb
where we all become
what Alaha wants.

must it taste sweet
when bitter becomes
lessons in patience?
if it tastes good, then good.
if we want to spit it
out of our mouth,
but hold it within,
can it be transformed
into gifts from God?

must it be bitter
or can it be a drink
that quenches thirst,
whether the one
with thirst is us,
or mothers, fathers,
sisters, brothers
or strangers,
prisoners, enemies,
sinners?
is it in learning
the ways of birds
who sing despite
how much they hunger?
do they have a mind
that tells them
when it's time to eat?

must we pick one when
both sides are a part
of the Beloved?
is it blood when the Beloved
asks us to bleed,
is it healing when
the Healer brings
us the tools to heal
any suffering,

let us plant and sow,
to grow in the world
the Love of the One who Knows
so that the One who Knows
waits behind His veils
for all who seek.
The Unnameable One who brings
all that was, is and is yet to be.
more than my need for food
is You, my Lord.
i yearn to long to feed on You.
