The Diamondback Grill

by Tony Whitaker

Fun from the start
walls of bar art
ordered Guinness on tap
moored boats feeling waves slap

Our seaside table was set
merry waitress we get
Dixie held a certain charm
coming straight from the farm

Laughter among the men
wives clucking like hens
husbands telling tall tales
as they toss back their ales

Middle of the day
as we sat by the bay
sea breeze spicing our meal
another St. John’s appeal

Author's Note: Our vacation on St. John's Island was among my favorites, if not the favorite, vacation I've had. The Westin Resort was beautiful, but the island and her people were even better.

I'd certainly say it was beautiful, from this piece alone. I think I'd like to go there now.
