green eyes by Peter Humphreysout
towards
the dune line
along
the levee bank
you
sit
auburn hair
lifting
flowing
behind
you
in
the evening sun
below her
on the bank
a black white cat
stalks
a butterfly
too flimsy fast
for such an aging felon
and
rising
with her hand
in mine
and
smiling
with her deep
green eyes
I wonder
if
her love
will last
the summer
honey
suckled
sweet
and
feather downed
the seeds
fly past
and
leaves
turn
yellow
reddening
brown
lip sweet
breasts neat
tongue tingling
