Growth Spurt

by Thomas Powers

It seemed so long since growth on path occurred
T’would move me from my awkward teenage years.
My days in wait to be adult now blurred,
I lived no more with adolescent fears.

As now life’s meter comes around again
The angst of future plans returns. My age
Will soon expect I sit in rocker when
I ponder and prepare to leave life’s stage.

Refuse I, though, to, ‘cept this fate when still
Remains so many deeds undone. I’ve set
My goals to meet and help new friends fulfill
Their dreams to change the world in ways unmet.

Thus God reply 'bout how last years I spent,
“Well done,” when deeds of mine and their's present.

Some really strong imagery in this. And the language really helps with that.
