Self Decisions

by Genevieve Sturrock

life wasn't easy for her
childhood was
torn away
before she was
old enough
to know
she was a child

experiences
nobody should
ever have to endure
were part of
her day to day life
she was fed
tribulation
the way other little girls
were spoiled with
sweets

and she took it all
swallowed it whole
not bothering to chew
letting it pass
through her
without absorption

she knew that
someday
she would grow up
and finally
have the
opportunity
to make her own
self decisions
