Beggar

by Maria Kintner

Cursed is she,
who gets caught preening her feathers
in the sultry light of the blue moon.

Her alter-ego, Narcissus, takes
her form and exploits - feeding the
hungry demon inside, whose appetite is
insatiable.

He leaves her a hollow shell.
A shadow of her intentions,
bargained and stolen for the
perversions of subhuman culture.

Reality is harsh. It pays her
no respect. She is dust and her soul;
penniless.
