she could feel the beat
toe-tapping rhythms instilling
satisfaction in clichés, and despite
knowing that it could be done better
the way it feels with the melody
coursing through her
was just as good a feeling as she can get
from something that wasn’t hers.

Smiling in spite of herself,
She doesn’t even really like the song
But it takes her ears only a second
To convince her mind to just
Listen.

And she knew that everything was right in the world
If only for three minutes.
