Special Days

by Oliver Drewman

Today was not a special day
Many lived and many died
Many actions taken just once
Will be taken once again
But not lived like today

Today was not a special day
Some found and some lost
Some loved sorrows they forgot
Discovered love and life and joy
But touches not felt like today

Today was not a special day
Few came and few went
Few saw suns rise and set
Yet rise the suns for numerous more
But not spread light that shone today

Today was not a special day
All the frantic rushing round
All demands for precious seconds
Met with constant sharp decisions
But lived just for today

The routine of the traumatic and dramatic drawn sharply when one must be at the ready for anything!
