in vincibility

by Cassandra Leigh

like the changing of the seasons, i
have frozen to his pleas
have melted at your touch
but like the turning of the earth, i
make you possible
go always unremarked

like the faithful Penelope, i
have waited years for you
kept you sacred in my dreams
but like the wretched Cassandra, i
endured for sake of your rebellion
fought my battles alone

like the disillusioned hero, i
am virgin no longer
despair of redemption
but like the beaten mule, i
survive still
will always return

like wind and fire, we
speak with different tongues
cannot be as one
but like Jack Frost on the windowpanes, we are
different every time
beautiful in vincibility
