Eye To Eye

by Sandy M. Humphrey

How briefly was the moment
Eye to eye we did connect
From my gray blue lakes
I sought to pour forth trust
Filtered streams of hope
Breaking through the clouds
Of confusion so you could see
A glimmer of recognition

I searched for clarity
Yet just as your eyes
Focused their steel blue
Pupils into mine a door
Closed and your eyelids
Shut there would be
No heart to heart
Connection tonight

What is it we cannot face
With each other in an
Intimate embrace
That we cannot endure
Contact eye to eye

You and I were lake staring close to the same time Sarah! My inspiration came from staring from above as the seemingly hundreds of lakes stared back at me from below--as we approached the Orlando airport on our way to Puerto Rico! Your moment and the "eye to eye" focus is mesmerizing... yes.. the lakes you look into MUST look back at you. So important.
