Paradise Lost by Alisa Jsthose mercy plates have slipped again, cracked and spent
were they ever there
beyond our grasp to reconcile
each splatter and breaking tear of blue,
have we lost our way
could we ever reach those shores once more,
touch the wonder of that misty dawn
we used to know as paradise
or has the clock run down ...
grace did abound, initially
infused our very beings,
we both marveled in the midst
of those baby steps, tender attempts
to make it right, this time
and it meant everything
somehow we lost the follow through ...
I was certain I felt heaven's kiss
as angels cried in loveliness,
stars on high lit candles dim
as not to startle or detract
from the wonder we both experienced
destined for eternal bliss
now vanished with those chilling winds
where once stood two,
proud and unashamed ...
how I miss the taste of innocence
and stand alone, pondering
how to change this course
pick up the remnants and scattered hues
of this broken spirit once kept in trust
filled now with puncture wounds,
still pleading from this empty heart
for one more glimpse of paradise ...
or do we drink the bitter wine of remembrance
when his words evoked her beauty within,
when everything he said was designed to bring about the best in her
and she blossomed in the world they shared,
he protected her, this love
inseparable, borne of destiny's breath
this melody of souls, divine
this serenade, this song
paradise lost ...
