Phone Grows Silent

by Jeffrey Parren

The phone grows more silent
and the echo of the washer
no match to deafening silence
the ringer aptly vanquishes.

I eagerly await the tones
whether of your voice or
from text message jolly
and my heart calms with all.

The phone grows more silent
and so does my care for the day
washed away by rainfall
silence unwanted in a noisy room.
