I used to hop in the car to drive
because my thoughts got the best of me
and instead of rambling to myself
in a room of gadgets and games
with all I could need to occupy me

I used to hop in the car to drive
to where the wheel took me
and my thoughts didn't
because the drive calmed me
and tension left my body when

I used to hop in the car to drive
and thoughts escaped like wind
gusting through my hair
and the car cut through emotions
possibly unreal until

I stopped hopping in the car to drive
because I became in control
when I had given up on life
of what I once thought couldn't be
a life worth living or happiness so

I begin to hop in the car to drive
once again as life takes course
but only not fast enough
and I dream a poor man's symphony
as the cd player fills streets.
