Chemo Clines by Tony WhitakerThink of this
when Earth exists
awash in gasses
shaken from anoxic seas
Holding its place
in deep seas and lakes
chemo clines hold our fates
Oxygen holds its regal place
in the waters above this invisible face
hydrogen sulfide held beneath
awaiting the warming seas release
of O2 from its watered bond
and the chemo clines cease to be
As the fumes of dark dead waters
waltz across the shores
naive winds bring change
and death comes quick
this the fifth when
life on Earth
almost
ceases to be
But life still stirs
in these dark seas and mists
and the cycle begins again
And man shall be no more

Posted by Alison McKenzie on 08/10/07 at 06:25 PM The cool thing to me is that we think we're so powerful, and then the Mother simply smacks us back into place, quiets our destructive rage for a while and then we are allowed to come back. Even though I don't relish the thought of being in the generation that actually experiences the extinguishing, I know that if we (mankind) can't quit it out, it will happen. |
