nostalgia

by Jared Fladeland

many nights we walked,
never strolling the same way.
we sat on top the crow's nest,
looking down on a scruffy
football field,
an empty highway lonely for the company of cars,
and houses calm with sleep.

but mostly we looked up,
at stars dancing in the sky,
the satellites speeding across
were chariots racing
on the velvety navy blue turning to black.

i saw my first falling star the other night,
and i wish you could've seen it with me.
