Lyin' Eyes

by Tony Whitaker

The lioness
awaits her prey
as she crouches
alone
by the phone

Her skillful stalking
has landed her
another lover
lost to
sharpened claws
she holds her feast
until sated
tosses away
another tattered
soul

Soon
she will feel
the hunger
once again

She checks
the herd
for the weak
and weary
and then...

She spies
another lover
and a smile
creeps across
her chin

A new chase
begins

Eeeiooow, nasty woman. I agree with T, there is something subtly funny about this.

*chuckles*... surely this is a young lioness. The older ones are yawning in the shade and snickering through their whiskers at her.
