Then You Came

by Jeffrey Parren

Life was traveling
but to where unknown
as my debt consumed me
I decided to live for it,
to conquer the dollars
against me for quite some time,
but then after it was gone,
I would have little to nothing
that living was worthwhile
so in finding me,
you have planted a seed;
a new start to a plant
that had since died
when I lost a huge part;
driving force of my life.

So now with you here,
I grind with ease
knowing each day worked
is another day closer
to seeing you again
wrapping my arms around
a future that I know is good
and it is because of you
that I came out of my shell
that was once a bubble
formed over with a hard crust
impenetrable by even a stroke
of luck or fortune.  Appreciation
and passion are two of many,
incredible character traits

you will instill in our children
as we groom the greatest
offspring any two people
could hope for who will then
have their own, making
us able to help raise even more
until we've exhausted
every last bit of energy.
And to think this all
could never happen
if not for a random search
while in reality you weren't
knowingly looking for me
but as life found us
you came into my life.
