sleeping giants

by Peter Humphreys

a lonely boat
sends out its note
upon the glass-like river
as limestone crags
from limestone born
cast long
dark shadows
'gainst
the morn
where sleeping
giants lie
and as you
kiss me
tender deep
and promises
are made to keep
the crows
cry home
and ducks
do wait
the gathering
of the
dawn time

Another great write. I like the way you paint a scene and then add small people.

The undercurrents here are strong as well as the currents deep. I like especially the scribing of the boat--"its note" which I see as its course and its wake, breaking of the pristine still surface of water--even like a blank page, the poem begins. Also the "sleeping giants" which imply the potential held within the dawn, the lovers, the crags, the birds who break the air with flight, with swim, with sound.
