To the Poet's Plight

by Tony Whitaker

Poems are often stories
written in disguise

Often steeped in truth
or observation in our lives

Often merely characters
our minds writing lies

Like how an actor works
a complete change of eyes

So read these words with wonder
where does our captain go

This ship of words shall sail us
upon a sea of thoughts and glows

To a dock of divergent thinking
from within our writerÂ’s lobes

And will then cast off the reader
on ocean smiles or seas of woes

Author's Note: I vote ocean smiles

Lol, I think my writer's lobe has soaked in salt water til it's a glob bobbing in the gentle swells... perhaps it rusted a bit too when it fell out of the wordship... mayhap it will wash ashore soon... and find a nice empty seashell to hibernate in a while. Really enjoyed this.

This will be a fave in my book, and when I read it I will float on that ocean of smiles...truly my poetic ship sails betwixt that ocean and the sea of woes oft. smh
