cat caught tongue but lent its frisk

by Lauren Singer

you kiss your mother with that monosyllabic mouth?

not so wholesome mischievous,
best dressed careless here to detroit.

got your loose laces
hogtied to your heels.

little skids in your bass-drum,
makes a better thwuck.
too distracted or disaffected to wipe the sweat from your brow,
you don't even look up when your playing.
less fastidious than your brother's bump funk.

after the show, tongue-tied whiskey-dipper,
placing fingertips on hipbones
like it ain't no thing.
we just like to move our skins, you know?

the type to snap your fingers, point and wink.
so slick, cowboy.

the dickens, and the bees knees, and the smooth sailor stride.
