By Means of Trap and Graft

by Tracy Ellen

Here and there you find a few squares
Without one single tale to tell
What to do with such boars and bears?
Their chattering a monotone wail.

Around the corner lives Mr. Horner
His stories frighten and honor
He is not life’s fruitless mourner
But a wily and lively con’er

Down the street walks ol’Pete
He’ll make you laugh ‘til you cry
Never hesitate to take a seat
And hear about life’s absurd lie

Across town works Mrs. Brown
She’ll teach with art and craft
How to avoid being beaten down
By means of trap and graft

Everywhere you look you can surely find
People whose sordid stories bring to mind
The fact that living is dangerous and tricky
So tell those squares not to be so picky!
