There Was Music by Alisa Jsthere was once an age of innocence
blushing brides and artfully shy girls
coy, if you prefer
demure
coquettish
back when a promise of purity still carried the pearl
today?
tossed aside with disdain ...
these are abominable times
full of corruption and debased degenerates
nasty and shameless as they forcibly press
without regard or respect
their way is the only consideration that matters
incorrigible and foul,
if one likes living twisted and psychotically fated
perhaps ...
virtue bound with chopsticks and pins
chastity spurned for the quick fix,
the stain leaks large over trust
leaving honor in rusted out boxes
fallen shelves on the wall
where music once played ...

| Posted by Tony Whitaker on 07/19/07 at 08:30 AM I sense an air of pessimism about the world that I have not read in your poems before. This one had a rhythm that was especially honed with your line breaks and punctuation. One that speaks of frustration with our times and I agree. Very good sweet Alisa! |
