babel, i sleep on your rubble

by Peter Hsu

babel
i sleep on your rubble
crumbling shape of
my wayward designs
you lend the taste
of yearning
to my midnight misery

babel
i sleep in your carcass
in embrace with
your dusty-bitter heart
breaking our gnawing teeth
on memories of a jealous god
who saw us shattered
before our first kiss of the sky

babel
i sleep on your eye
dissolving my dreams
into the tears you swallow
to keep you alive
until morning finds me
forgetting everything just
to eat books and drink liquor
