Stitches and Bandages

by Christopher Shin

My heart has very
little that holds
it together in
my chest.

Stitches and bandages
seem to barely keep
the pieces that
I have done.

I loved you with
all the summer leaves,
but you loved the
world more then
I could give.

Each day and each
night I can only
guess why others
like you who
share the same brown
eyes barely covered,
but all the time there.

They protrude and
cover their hearts
but all I can do
is think about
how to guard
the naked wound.

Is it fair that
I deny others,
but the spark
you gave life to
me isn't in their
smile.

All that I have is
a fleeting memory
of stitches and bandages
that can not and
will not heal.

Very nice Christopher. I love the metaphor of stitches and bandages for a healing, yet broken, heart.
