With Matching Shutters by P.T. Brooks
She was five years old and building
In her head
And in her heart
A beautiful brick house
With a red door
And matching shutters
She dreamed by day
And dreamed by night
She dreamed so long it seemed
To add for just an instant
Reality to this dream
Her mom and dad
They bought her
A doll she loved indeed
But not until the doll was placed
In a house much like her dream
She dreamed specific
Each tiled floor
The painted walls and so much more
Detail was at heart and mind
This red brick house shed one day find
Graduation after 13 years
Had brought along
Some newfound fears
Where to go
And what to do
Her dreams still stable
But still untrue
She met a man
Who promised true
All her dreams
The old and new
He built her house
Red brick and door
They married soon
With much remorse
She searched so long for reason
But couldnt figure why
She had the house she dreamed of
But still at night shed cry
She thought surly this was the house
She built inside her head
Until I came along
And painted her shutters red

Posted by Genevieve Sturrock on 07/09/07 at 12:54 PM just had red shutters put on my house...made all the difference in my world. this was a nice read and i suspect much deeper meaning lurks beneath the story-like surface. |
