Calling It A Day

by Joan Serratelli

I think it's time
we called it a day
we have nothing left
except the fighing
(the thing we do best)

We no longer
want the same things
we live separate lives
in separate rooms

We gave it our best
it just wasn't to be
we've drifted apart
and cannot find our way back

I will always love you
but I can no longer be
what you want
I'm too old to be controlled

I want to be free
to do what I want
without permission
to simply be me without apology

This one brings up my own memories of the death of my first marriage and a woman I almost married. Sometimes, it is not meant to be and you write ot so well in this tearful piece that got my heartstrings pulled! Good luck and remember, this too shall pass...
