Venomous Love Song (sonnet)

by Ashley Lane

She has a diabetic Confidence
that pulsates through every artery
and leaves her in a state of reverie
that illuminates her great Defiance.
But she will soon show her Ambivalence
when she retreats into Insecurity
and displays her great capacity
for mind-numbing, oscillating Arrogance.
In the transience that calls itself Life,
among the humans that are junkies for Praise
the Highs fluctuate; the Lows will last
and turn through the gut, that horrible Knife
that seems to cut short the best of our days.
Those best days though, have already passed.

Author's Note: I had no title for this when I first wrote it and five years later I still can't think of a good one.
