Chasing America's Dream

by Ashley Lane

Blasting out of the starting gates
on the circular track,
I chase after her.
She is the one that tells me about the glory
of puritanically striving
for my goals.

Proud to be an American,
where wonders and opportunities never cease

to move.

I had to race out of the womb
to get close to catching her.
Years are only flying relative
to my movement
says Einstein,
the man whom perhaps
brushed against the skirt
of Understanding
before she sped away

to our golden shores.

We have seen many times
that dreams are quite capable
of running across the sands.

This isn't a place for the faint of soul.
