I Wish I Knew You

by Tony Whitaker

I was a man
who tried
to be the
lucky guy
once wore sheep’s
clothes at night
to find my
warm delight

But that was
just a lie
I’m not that
kind of guy

You never knew me

I was single then
searching for
one-night friends
who seem naught
to care
for love

I would simply
walk away

But that was
just a lie
I’m not that
kind of guy

You never knew me
You never knew me

When you
came along
your passion
sang a song
with small lips
that spoke
I felt
your love and hope

You healed this heart
once broke
then your words in time
awoke

You know that day
so well
that day
for you
I fell

And now I
stand alone
having
lost your song
knowing we
will never be

So I turn away
just know
I can
always say
though I love
my wife today
I loved you
oh...so well
and never
wrong...was...done

And though I
lost your song

I wish

I knew

Beautiful. Is this a song? I wish I could hear it played.

Reading through this one and reflecting on the message within, what comes to mind is a sweet and sensitive soul, who is also tender and quite sentimental. Beautifully shared for us out here to enjoy. Thanks, Tony. aloha ;-)
