You baked me chocolate chip cookies
while I was toiling away at work
in the anticipation of giving them to me
and I know my joy over seeing what you made
was well worth the effort you put forth
because I know how I felt and I displayed
honest and true what my heart and mind
were computing as I grasped the container
many times before but in the form
of a black tin my mom used to store
the precious treats and that difference
was catastrophic to the negativities
of memories associated with favorite things
and how you could so easily change
years of trouble within an instant
when chocolate chip cookies once again
warmed my heart and greeted my taste buds
with sweet life and thoughts of happiness.
