Topic: Winter Flowers

by Amanda J Cobb

Don't be fooled
by their apparent fragility;
these are the adventurers,
the stubborn impatients of the garden.

They scoff at their summer siblings
who wait placidly
for the warmth of security
found amidst sunbeams and butterflies.

Summer colors may be brighter,
but anyone can be bright.

Surviving winter takes strength
and determination -
adversity brings a deeper growth
than simply blooming at ease.

When winter flowers finally triumph
in their struggle with the frozen ground,
the streaks of frost and dirt
only increase their beauty.

Author's Note: Topic from Kathleen Wilson. Dare I hope my muse is back in action after SO long an absence?
