Water On The Outside Of The Glass

by Dan Kasten

I turn from the glass walls that create half my office
no need to share my tears with the outside world today

my soul cries out with words muted by the anger of others
screaming with no noise, screaming with no echo

I sit and stare at a glass with water clinging to its side
and wonder what physics would allow me to turn back towards the glass walls again.

Author's Note: This was the first piece I wrote after I realized my marriage was in a quick decline. Yes, my office has two entire walls that are glass, one, of which, looks out into a highly trafficked atrium. It is difficult to hide some days.

The day I posted this would have been my anniversary. And, for this one day, I will remember all the good things about my marriage... and turn back to the glass walls tomorrow.
