July 4th

by Charles M Harrison

One day a year we gather with
our family and our friends.
To celebrate our history
how this nations story begins.
We revel with our music,
parades and fire works displayed.
Freedoms given to us all
by a heavy price paid.
It was men of free thought
who gave our home itÂ’s start.
Who believed in our liberty
with every fiber of their heart.
In God they put their trust
that he put down the plan.
They knew that his blessings
were laid upon this land.
They chose to risk all they had
to follow where God would lead.
Eight years did they work,
sweat, fight and bleed.
Much from each was lost,
much from them was taken.
Because they followed God
by him they were not forsaken.
Through our nations history
people of free thought.
Have defended our freedoms
with each battle that was fought.
Old Glory still waves on high
a testament across this land.
For all our countrymen
who for freedom took a stand.
One day a year we gather with
our family and our friends.
To celebrate our history
how this nations story begins.
We revel with our music,
parades and fire works displayed.
Freedoms given to us all
by a heavy price paid.

A great read anytime of the year! But especially for this Memorial Day weekend as well as July 4 coming up!
