The Legacy Dejected by Thomas K. HuntThere would have been no more war in sixty-four
If the dream had stayed alive
No reason for thousands of taps
Or to shout hurray for our side
But the dream did die in an Autumn sky
On a dark November day
The vision that was went up in smoke
Never hearing what he had to say
Ask not what can be done
Ask what you can do
A message that’s been forgotten
That was meant for me and you
Echoes still surround us
From the air that we all breathe
Yet with each new generation
We still watch our loved ones bleed
None have grasped the knowledge
Nor held that passion tight
That strength is in diplomacy
To keep us from the fight
Lost are the new elected
Down a path of doom and plight
Blind to what’s expected
Lost to what is right
