Such A Strange And New Dance

by Dan Kasten

Such a new and strange dance
as I remembered at the time

you took comfort in green tea and dark chocolate
looking out your window to the east to catch a glimpse

of anything from the past hour that could be declared a sign
from a God who has better things to do right now

and right now is the key, as for now he has planted
a smile on your face as a guardian from those

who would harm you north or south of your realm, giving you reason
to return amongst days previously indistinguishable.

Exquisite, poised, mysterious and inviting. The details chosen and the contrast between those and the "indistinguishable"-- perfect.

I am fascinated by the way you place wording in unexpected ways. Like:

... a guardian from those

who would harm you north or south of your realm ...
