fallen angels

by Peter Humphreys

fallen angels
gathering home
as dawn
aglowering
grows
black
white
crows
crawk
gulls
screech
the daylights
subtle murmurings
and on the
mourning tide
solitary boats
head out
from port
to race
the stags
broad haven
to dance
with death
just
one
more
time
as celestial
beings
fall
craven

A really startling image, and within the silent context of dawn so do the crows take the day into their voices and embody the "craven" -- ominous is in their call--as the (even darker symbolic) "raven" lingers in the "craven" word. so costumed the play of these..."fallen angels". A moment alone in early morning, the solitary mood and call is strong here.
