Night Dancer

by Alisa Js

strolling out and about, he makes his hay
no one will notice, especially not her!
she loves him and believes his every word
he wouldn't deceive her
he promised...

he dances with fire flies in the back forty
noting they look especially friendly tonight,
he picks up a candle and begins to spin
like a spider, black
weaving his web
granules of glitter, just a glimpse
not too much, lest he begin to splatter
and we sure as hell wouldn't want that ...

the fire flies notice and begin to swarm
and it's all he can do not to pick up his big, bad baton
why not show just a little bit?
give them a hint
of what could be theirs
never happen,
it's all pretend...

but they don't know that and they keep biting
yearning for just one little taste,
and he teases and taunts
knowing all the while
his heart belongs to no one
at least no one they know...

meanwhile, the girl with the heart full of gold
pure as the mist of the new rain,
she waits by the lampstand, watching to be sure
believing in her heart
he's true
he wouldn't lie, he told her so,
never mind the fact it's been ages since he's stopped by ....

Why are the pure in heart so drawn to the spiders with a taste for fireflies? This drew me in from the beginning.
