dust

by Jim Benz

broad land
busy land of commerce
and construction

(violence in the city
violence in the silent heart)

choking
land
of coal burners
and cat calls
land
of the deep pocket
and a windless song
land
of amnesia

(violence in the city
violence in the grieving heart)

Often when I read your work, I'm reminded of Black Elk. (Who I think is somewhere nearby, listening deeply to your observations.)

The land of amnesia... vital statement, isn't it. And, who will remember it all tomorrow... . Nice wake up call. Dan

I despise the cancer we are on this land. I despise the way we "acquired" this land. I love this land, and it's not mine nor anyone else's but Creator's, and......geeeeeze. I could really go off here, but what I mean to say is, you've packed a big punch in these few words wisely chosen. And I'm glad I read it.
