Rainy Day Heart

by Jeffrey Parren

There's something to be said
for the smell in the air right before rain.
I am sure, though, someone said it.
Better than I, more meaningful than I,
maybe even got it published.
But for me, not being a huge fan of rain,
I can still recognize and appreciate
its purpose and need for the world.
It is great to sing in, especially happily.
I hear it is even fun to kiss in, but
busily life passes that each time
I get caught the rain is unwelcomed
so I never get to fully reach natural high.
With more of life I am missing daily
even though carpe diem I do so believe
rain helps me realize that even the bad
days and events can be cherished
for those are the days I am living,
realizing the substantial meaning
that a heartbeat and the rain can give.

Author's Note: It started raining as quickly as it is seemingly going to stop. Good thing I got this poem out quickly.
