Shingle Springs by Leonard M HawkesWith the Sierras to my left,
The Central Valley to my right,
Among these oaken hills
I walk in Ter Neusen.
Dark schist and red brown clay
All fade to pale sand, and the
Pacific's morning mist
To the scent of the Schelde;
Random foothill flora transform
To engineered plantings--
All framed in the eyes and
Scholarship of the Great Basin. 06/20/2007 Author's Note: Placerville, Ca; 18 June 2007
