just before the solstice, haiku by Jim Benz
spring moon
even if elsewhere
autumn sun
above the tipi
a tall sickly birch
leaning
summer wind
all over my brown lawn
green apples
how these birch whisper
when a storm blows in -
look at them dance!
sudden downpour -
even the cats
come inside
lone falcon
soaring in the sky -
not many pigeons
beneath a canopy
of blue sky and leaves -
weathered hammock
prairie wind -
not enough matches
to get stoned
old glory
waving on a slanted pole
above a peace sign
boarded-up house -
look how tall
these weeds grow!
wind through the window -
a green cherry bough
moving inside
summer drought -
even my crab grass
looks parched
nuthatch
flying in my house -
stupid cat
sultry day -
bedsheets flapping
