The Ten Year Tragedy Philosophy

by Dan Kasten

I can still feel the warmth of your gentle touch
something you gave freely despite the pain

I can still see the softness in your eyes
but dare not look into them now

the day you died was supposed to be my lucky day
foretold by your ten-year tragedy philosophy

on this surreal day of days I look at my calendar
and count breaths until the year has passed.

Tragedy certainly defines the absolute in its very unfolding. To me, you have blended that finite with the infinate here, the ethical manifestations of life and the inorganic nature of man. Fascinating! Thanks.

Poignant, intimate, I surely can relate! Greg, I think, has caught the significance -- the finite meeting the infinite.

Dan. This is one of the first poems I’ve ever read by you that I could take personally. The first one that has ever produced tears and a crumpled chin under an unstoppable pout. You write such profound poetry, and you have written excellent poetry for and about specific persons before. But this is the first to lance my heart.
