between a badger
and the badger den
my quaking knees

dry summer wind -
drinking beer in the shade
watering trees

cherry bush
drooping with fruit
sparrows and finches

on a forest path
me and the porcupine both
stock-still

how lazy I am
watching the weeds grow
in your garden

summer rain -
rising from the pavement
a smell of dust

***

so many flies -
maybe this picnic
was a bad idea
