the price of deceit

by Marlon DeLeon

i sold my soul today
for a suit with a heart shaped pocket
this tailor had horns and a forked tongue
said it was a perfect fit
for a man filled with deceit
and i wore it nicely
it was a bit worn and torn
like the trail of broken hearts i've left behind
and i believe this was one hell of a bargain
a well made suit for a tired old soul
everything was beautiful and nothing hurt
so i stepped back on that empty road
and i've never felt this alone
every step i took was heavier then the last
this suit isn't quite what i expected
my heart only fits in this pocket in pieces
i'm beginning to miss my soul
oh how i've grown tired of this torn up suit
but this burden is non refundable
