Peeping Tom's

by Jeffrey Parren

no matter how long you may know me
or think you know me
you will never really know me

for as long as I can remember
few have managed to break in
finding out what makes me tick

and for some reason they leave
leaving me fending my own battles
battling the demons of overthought

so what is left are those that drill
tiny holes into that wall,
peeping tom's upon my innocence

at some point you just learn to give up
those that cannot break through again
after finding a hole to peer through once
