"Far Be it from Me to Tell You the Truth" by Max PhineasNine days left
and I feel them pass
ground ripped from my feet,
I trip forward in time.
First time I saw you
decided right there
you can have all of me.
(What good is a heart
with half the pieces gone?)
Take it all
and keep it warm.
I spoke in tongues;
rhythmic code
left you to decipher,
decide for yourself.
But now there are
Nine Days left
and I feel them pass...
the ground is gone.
and there is no truth-
that can sting, so searing-
as this Goodbye.
So humor me, please
while my soul spills dry.
Let me, at least
speak my peace.
I love you,
I'll miss you,
and I refuse to call this Goodbye. 05/30/2007 Author's Note: June 8th marks my last day of high school. This is dedicated to someone who will never know the value of his time and his smile.

Posted by Michelle Angelini on 05/31/07 at 06:50 PM Congratulations on your graduation. Transition, especially when an unexpressed love is left behind, is never easy. Yet, perhaps, whether this be a teacher or a friend, your paths may cross again in the future. You have so beautifully expressed one of life's lessons - leaving behind what's familiar and comfortable. I sincerely hope you major in English/Creative writing in college, if that's where you're headed in the fall. You have a wonderful talent for poetic expression.

Posted by Deborah Breuer on 06/04/07 at 04:25 AM Not "Good-bye" just "See you later." I've said that before. The truth of the matter is that we don't always mean that, and we know that it should really be "good-bye." And that's the truth of the matter. But far be it for me to tell you the truth. That's my story and this is yours. A great write. |
