Everyone Else's Time

by Meagan Green

There should be no reason to look into it.
It is right behind your eyes, backward from the light.
Invert it, then divert it, throw it at the wind and watch it bend.
It is already there, so throw it again, friend.
Convert it, insert it, revert it back to the end again,
then watch it touch infinity as it becomes your prison loop.
The chains you arrange become your freedom.

How many cans of color
does it take to paint a house?
Depends on how hard you throw them.

You choose the speed at which things occur,
you choose the shackles that you wear.
Comfort,
a fort,
or..
O

You sleep inside your tophat.
Slave to the grave.

They called me today, they cut back my hours,
can't pay the bills, can't water the flowers.
I threw a grenade at the wage,
so people pay ten bucks to watch
artificial super powers
in a dark room
for just an hour or so
of sleep.

Some of us know someone who'll partner,
be on your side to fester, molest her,
screaming pleasure does combine
with humor, consume her,
call him mine.

But fear rapes both of you,
insecurity feels too true,
and we turn blue
to blend with the sky
and fight the sparkle in our eyes.

All of this so the chains are tight,
all of this so everyone else's time
feels right.
