Like Peanut Butter

by Joe Cramer

These ideas that tend to stick

To the roof of my mouth like peanut butter

So unforgettable, regrettable-

Sleeveless politicians in clown suits

Juggling their "opinions"

While they hide their sleeves in back

Pockets, back rooms where deals are done.

As deeds go unpunished.

So many fresh new opinions

Are torn from the daily news.

Lets open it up and see,

See what we are to think today.

Let's see who is to blame today.

It's easy to forget our own ignorance

When we hate other people.

Perhaps someday we can take satisfaction

In the fact that we are as soft as sheep.

Did it stop raining?

Maybe this morning we can call the day

Our own, without patriotic overtones.
